Keep eyes on the news and market trends<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2026especially around milestone events like <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_Kingdom_European_Union_membership_referendum,_2016\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"84\">Brexit<\/a>, Covid-19, US presidential elections or even massive internal changes like demonetization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n[Check out my full guide for NRIs to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparism.com\/nri-guide-500-1000-rupee-notes\/\" data-lasso-id=\"85\">exchange 500 and 1000 rupee notes<\/a>.]\n\n\n\n<p>You must be aware of the June 2016 Brexit vote wherein the UK decided to leave the EU. This news had such an impact that <strong>UK pound to rupee dropped by Rs. 10 in a single day<\/strong>. Now do your calculations of how much you would have saved if you made the transfer on 22 June just one day before the results came out?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pound to Rupee rate was 100.30 on 23 June 2016 and slid to 92.8 by the end of 24 June 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a single day!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It further went down to 81.11 by mid of Oct 2016. <em>[Source: xe.com &#8211; more details in a bit.]<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Imagine how much difference it would have made if you were planning to transfer money to India around this time and had smartly timed your transfer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep an eye on the news and market trends around currency exchange fluctuations and make the transfer when you feel it right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#2. Set online alerts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This one is my favourite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You need to be patient for success with this one!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Online money transfer services allow you to set up email and text alerts (SMS) which are triggered when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparism.com\/best-way-to-send-money-to-india-from-uk\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"23\" data-lasso-id=\"2142\">GBP to INR<\/a> exchange rate hits the level that you set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, if the GBP-INR rate today is \u20b990\/pound and I want to get an alert when it touches 94.5, I will get an email or a text informing me the rate reached these levels, whenever that happens. I don\u2019t need to keep checking it every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can then accordingly decide and make the money transfer or wait further by again setting another alert increasing the level this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Services like <a class=\"thirstylink\" title=\"XendPay\" href=\"https:\/\/www.comparism.com\/xendpay\/\" data-lasso-id=\"86\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-lasso-name=\"XendPay\">Xendpay<\/a> and <a class=\"thirstylink\" title=\"TransferWise\" href=\"https:\/\/www.comparism.com\/transferwise\/\" data-lasso-id=\"87\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-lasso-name=\"Wise\">TransferWise<\/a> allow you to&nbsp;do this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s how you can set up alerts with Transferwise.
